The Medieval town of Rhodes at first sight looks pretty impressive. When someone starts telling you about the place though it starts to disappoint a little. The castle that is the first thing to catch your eye when you enter the city was actually built but the Italians in the 20th century during their occupation of the island. They started setting up Rhodes as a tourist attraction and the castle was built grossly oversize compared to the rest of the city. Also most of the city had been “repaired” which means rebuilt due to damage during fighting. The city is free to enter though (the castle is not) so if you find yourself on Rhodes it is worth the stroll.
